Oakes joins Dewsbury permanently

Dewsbury Rams can announce that we have signed Super League winger Will Oakes on a permanent one year deal.

The 21 year old who grew up in Halifax has played at the highest level of the sport and now he will be representing the Rams in the Betfred Championship.

Oakes started his career in the Wakefield Trinity scholarship academy, he stayed there for a few seasons before moving to Hull KR to find first team opportunities.

He moved to the Robins at the age of just 16 in 2016, and made his debut later that year. Just a year later he helped the Rovers achieve promotion back to the Betfred Super League, and in 2018 signed a new deal with the Hull based club until the end of the 2021 campaign.

Last season Oakes joined Dewsbury on a season long loan. Although the 2020 season was curtailed he managed to grab two tries one against Oldham and the other in the Challenge Cup away at Newcastle.

Oakes who became a vital figure for the club last season will now join us on a permanent basis and wear the 5 shirt.

On signing Will up, head coach Lee Greenwood said: “As a club we are really happy to bring Will in on a permanent deal. He was enjoying his time with us and this was showing in his performances.

“He has a point to prove to people and himself next year after leaving Hull KR and that can only be good for us.

“Will has the potential to step back up to Super League and we are happy to help him try achieve this.”
