Day- I’m proud to wear the shirt

Last night Dewsbury Rams announced that hooker Sam Day will be staying on for the second year of his contract.

The club and head coach Lee Greenwood are delighted we’ve been able to retain Sam.

On him staying at the Rams, Day said: “I’m really proud to wear a rams shirt, I live quite local so I always knew who Dewsbury were when growing up and what a good club it was and still is.

“So to be able to be playing another year here is something I’m really looking forward to.”

Day had a fantastic 2019 season and was starting to get going in 2020 before the campaign was curtailed. On his ambitions for the 2021 season, he commented: “My ambitions for this season are probably the same as the last few years and that’s just to be playing week in week out and enjoying my rugby.

“We had a great start to this season so hopefully we can do the same again in 2021.”

Day always eager to get stuck into the opposition has certainly missed getting out onto the field and playing for a club he clearly loves.

“I think everyone was disappointed when the season was voided and the longer it’s gone the more people are missing it.” He said.

Adding: “So I think I can speak for everyone that the sooner it’s back the better.”

Day has now been at the club for over four years. Last year’s start to the season was one of the best whilst he’s been at the Rams. He believes there was a great atmosphere in the squad last year and also says whilst the league will be even tougher next year, there is no reason the Rams can’t keep pushing up the table and proving bigger teams wrong.

He said: “The atmosphere and vibe around the club was something you wanted to be part off, hopefully we can keep the majority of that squad for 2021 and kick on from where we left off.

“I’m expecting the championship to be as hard as ever, some big teams are pushing for promotion but there’s no reason why we can’t be in the play off spots come the end of next season.”

Finally Day had this to say to the Rams faithful: “To the fans, I hope you are all keeping well in these difficult times and fingers crossed we get to see you Boxing Day when we beat Batley.”
