Gabriel- It was a no brainer for me to stay

The club recently confirmed the re-signing of winger Andy Gabriel.

Gabes as he’s affectionately known as has become one of the first names on the team sheet since joining the club two years ago.

A prolific scorer in League One with Keighley Cougars, head coach Lee Greenwood saw the opportunity for the young man to play at a higher level.

Since joining the Rams, Gabes has scored many important tries and has shown not only his speed but his skill as a winger.

His ability to beat a man and finish off some great tries has meant he’s become a fans favourite.

On staying with the Rams for another season, Gabriel said: “It was a no brainer for me really, last season apart from the slip up at Newcastle we were off to a great start.

“There was a real good vibe around the club and it showed in the performances.”

Since joining back in 2019, the speedster believes he’s grown and improved as a player.

“I feel like I’ve grown in confidence, once I earned my spot in the team I don’t think I’ve looked back really.

“I feel like I’ve worked on both strengths and weaknesses and improved as time has gone by.”

Last season the Rams lost just two of their first six fixtures and Gabriel believes if the team can bring that same spirit to games there is no reason they can’t have a great start to 2021.

“I’m really looking forward to 2021, I am working towards coming back even fitter and stronger than last season and start 2021 like we did 2020.

“Without a doubt the attitude of the coaching staff, players and fans collectively made last year so much more enjoyable.”

On a final message to supporters, Gabe’s said: “Stick with it, it’ll be back before you know it, and bring that same energy from the start of 2020 because 2021 is going to be no different!”
