Worrying times for our sport so let me concentrate on the positives! It is worth mentioning that whilst many sporting competitions fell on their sword last weekend that all 24 games in the National Conference League were completed.

Still on the cheerful theme & there were fine wins for Thornhill Trojans & Dewsbury Celtic who now top their respective divisions. Shaw Cross Sharks also tasted victory.
Thornhill came back from a 12 – 6 deficit at Milford in Division One to clinch a nail biting 13 – 12 triumph.

Casey Johnson was the hero with a late drop goal after he had earlier converted a Jake Wilson try to level the scores. George Scott notched the Trojans first half try that was also converted by Johnson.

Dewsbury Celtic continue to set the pace in Division Two after a 26 – 10 win in their local derby against Bradford Dudley Hill at Crow Nest Park.

This game was a feisty affair but Celtic took early command with tries from Charlie Heaton, Pat Foulstone & Harry Copley with Heaton tagging on two goals to establish a 16 – nil lead. Dudley Hill fought their way back into the contest but a further try from Pat Foulstone augmented by one from Nathan Waring ensured Celtic stayed in control. Charlie Heaton added his third goal.

Yet another Saturday when the Guinness in the Irish Nash would taste extra good!

Shaw Cross Sharks returned from their trans pennine trip to Waterhead Warriors having triumphed 19 – 10.

This was a fine effort by the Sharks who established a 14 – nil half time lead through two tries from Jake Smart & 3 goals from Josh Pinder.

Waterhead rallied in the second half but a Joel Russell try & a Pinder field goal kept Cross on the front foot.

Dewsbury Moor Maroons made the long journey to Barrow Island & put up a massive fight in heavy rain on the Furness peninsula before going down 14 – 6. James Samme scored the Moor try with Brad Foster converting.

Sadly there are no fixtures to preview this weekend & I do not have to explain why!

Division Two saw Shaw Cross Sharks entertain visitors from Halifax at Leeds Road & the game concluded a successful weekend for the Sharks as their winter team beat King Cross Park 46 – 22.

So a decent weekend for our clubs & another positive thought – For a relatively small town it is absolutely fantastic that we have four clubs who compete at National Conference League level.

The Round Two stage saw Dewsbury Moor represent our town at Under 16 & Under 14 level but sadly both were beaten by red rose opposition. Moor Under 16s were defeated 36 – Nil at Halton Farnworth Hornets whilst their Under 14s fell 50 – Nil on home soil to a rampant Leigh Miners Rangers

The results below will no doubt feature many of the young guys who have enjoyed evenings at the Rampage club.
