Day: To go 3 wins from 4 would be a massive boost

Dewsbury Rams hooker Sam Day is ready to carry on the good work that he and his teammates have been doing at the start of this season.

The Rams could go 3 wins from their first 4 matches when they come face to face with Oldham in the Betfred Championship on Sunday.

On the start to the season, Day said: “Obviously it’s been a good start to the season from the games we have managed to win. I think that’s come down to a really good pre-season we had where everyone worked hard.

“Hopefully that can carry on for the rest of the year.

“To go 3 from 4 to start the year off would be a massive boost, instead of looking over our shoulder and being near the bottom of the table we can hopefully stay in the mix with those teams fighting for the play offs. Then who knows what could happen.”

With wins over Halifax and Widnes it has surprised a few people with the start Dewsbury have made. Day insists that they can have more great days like those and believes in time they won’t be talked about as shock wins.

He said: “100% we can but I don’t think they will be shock wins, we have a good team this year and if everyone continues working hard for each other we will definitely be winning a lot more games this season.”

Day says the dressing room is in a happy place at the moment, but they don’t want that good feeling to burst and so will be doing everything they can for that not to happen.

“Yes it’s happy place at the minute and obviously that comes with winning games and playing well.” Day said.

He continued: “We just don’t want that bubble to burst this weekend when we come up against Oldham. It is a game where for the first time we’re expected to win and we could come unstuck.

“This week is a real test to see how different the team is compared to the one I was part of last year but I’m confident we can go there and do a job to make it 3 out of 4.”

Day was a powerhouse last season when it came to scoring tries, only missing out on top try scorer to Rob Worrincy who has since gone on to play back at Sheffield.

Day is confident he can once again score many tries. However he also insists that he believes the team as a whole will grab more tries across the season.

He said: “Yes I wouldn’t mind being up there again everyone likes scoring.

“However I think our back 5 are really good this year so it wouldn’t surprise me if they score a lot of try’s for us this season too.”
