Magrin on settling in to life at the Rams

Dewsbury Rams new recruit Jon Magrin insists he has settled in well to his new club since joining the Rams.

Magrin has played a big part in pre-season and managed to score two tries.

On settling in to his new surroundings he said: “Dewsbury is a great club with some of the best facilities in the league and a loyal fan base,

“I really like what I’ve seen so far and I am glad that some of the fans have said nice things, hopefully myself and the team can consistently give them a reason to cheer every weekend.”

Magrin and his teammates have been put through a tough pre-season schedule by head coach Lee Greenwood. However whilst it’s tough now Magrin thinks it will hopefully benefit the team in the long run.

He said: “I’ve really enjoyed pre-season so far, it has been good to get to know all the lads and staff. I think we’ve got a great bunch and that’s always half the battle.

“The training programme has been gruelling but I feel fit and strong as a result of it.

“Pre-season has gone well, I think Greeny (Lee Greenwood) and his staff have put together a robust training programme that is sure to prepare us as best as possible for the season.

“The squad is getting more close knit with each session so hopefully we can go into round one with confidence and pull off an upset.”

On scoring two tries against his former side in the Bradford Bulls in pre-season, Magrin says whilst it’s nice to get over the line it’s all about the team performance.

He commented: “It’s nice to get over the line albeit in pre-season but the more encouraging thing was the team performance. Everyone was singing from the same hymn sheet against Bradford and we won off the back of effort and enthusiasm.

“Pre-season tries don’t mean much, I think you always want to play well against your old team and get one up on some mates, hopefully we can do the same when the game matters more.”

Finally Magrin is excited to get going in the actual league campaign which kicks off for the Rams against the Leigh Centurions. The game will take place on the 31st January at the Tetley’s Stadium with a 7.30pm kick off.

On the upcoming fixture Magrin said: “I am looking forward to playing on the Friday night against Leigh.

“They are a quality outfit so we will have to bring our A game.”
