Martin Excited for future with Rams

Dewsbury Rams recently announced fullback Joe Martin had re-signed for the club on a one year deal.

The 24 year old arrived at the Tetley’s Stadium halfway through the 2019 campaign and immediately made the fullback position his own. Having put in a number of impressive performances, head coach Lee Greenwood and the club have rewarded him with a new deal.

On staying at the club, Martin said: “Yes I am very happy, I counted myself lucky to be given a shot last season and to earn a contract is a bonus.

“Last season was tough obviously as we weren’t where we wanted to be but we wanted to survive and we did that. So it is now time to think about next season and moving forward. I enjoyed last year despite the form we were in and I owed the club and Lee for giving me the opportunity.

On the relationship he built up with the Rams supporters, Martin insists that their support and backing really does help in games.

He commented: “Yes it’s massive, it gives you that extra 10% when you need it and it’s a confidence builder. Hopefully we can repay them next season with a better and more competitive season.”

Martin would like to keep improving as a player and really make the fullback spot his own going into the 2020 season, he also hopes the whole team can have a much more successful campaign.

“I really want to make the fullback position my own.” He said. He continued: “Last year I just wanted to be safe and make as little errors as possible. However with a pre-season under my belt, which I didn’t have last year I’ll be able to put more time into my skills and decision making.

“Obviously we as a team want to be better than last year, but to make sure we play like we did in some areas last season, where we were competing with top teams. When we were giving it 100% we could compete with anybody.”
