Rams host learning disability trip

Dewsbury Rams were delighted to host a group of people with learning difficulties on Monday afternoon. The Rams worked with local company Ambitions4Kirklees who are a local firm based in Mirfield that help people with learning difficulties.

Ambitions created in 2008 offers a fantastic service to help people with learning difficulties and disabilities to achieve success. Companies such as Ambitions are extremely important to the local community and especially to people with learning difficulties.

When they arrived at the Tetley’s stadium they were given a guided tour of the ground, showing them each stand, the gym, the wrestle room, the function rooms and kitchen. Each person left with a match day programme and team poster to help them remember their fantastic day at the Rams.

On the trip Ambitions4Kirklees learning facilitator Helen said: “The reason for our trip to your brilliant facilities is because we would like our clients to integrate into the community more and see what is going on locally.

“When we rang the Rams, you were so helpful and supportive of the things we wanted to achieve, and when we have come down it has been more than what we expected the experience we have had. It is actually quite emotional the way we have been treated so well. Seeing our clients having so much fun and getting so much out of it is so pleasing and this is exactly what we want to do more of.

“I didn’t expect the club to be able to provide what you have and it’s like we have had the VIP treatment where nothing is too much. The wealth of information that both Steven and other members of staff such as Bev have provided has been brilliant and we at Ambitions just can’t thank you enough.

“Hopefully the other clients that access our service will be able to come and have this same experience as I feel they have missed out. This group has been able to have a look at what goes on at a rugby league club, it has been great.

“Our clients don’t always get the same opportunities that other people do and sometimes they get pushed away. However when you get people such as yourself that is willing to give their time up to help us in ventures like this where our clients get a huge deal out of it then it is great.”

Rams Media Manager Steven Downes added: “It was fantastic to have Ambitions4Kirklees down, they do fantastic work in the local community and you could really see they had fun when visiting us at the stadium.

“This is just another example in a long line of community driven events and visits that Dewsbury Rams is working towards. The idea that the club is at the heart of it’s community no matter the religion, ethnicity, ability or gender is what we are striving towards. We want Dewsbury Rams RLFC to be a place where everyone can come and enjoy being here.

“The club would gladly welcome Ambitions4Kirklees to come on another visit when it suits both parties.”
