Greenwood previews Rochdale game

Dewsbury Rams head coach Lee Greenwood has given his thoughts ahead of our crucial game away at the Rochdale Hornets tomorrow in the Betfred Championship.

It is the game in hand for the Rams as this fixture should have been played back at the start of the season.

However the game was called off due to bad weather conditions. Now the match can go ahead and Greenwood is looking forward to it.

He said: “We want to carry on our run of performances and we think we have started to get somewhere near consistency. We’ve gone four games now in a row and we want to make it five, but it is the result that matters.

“We just want to go there with the right intent, we can look at points differences and the scoreline last time all we want, but it’s all about the result and at this stage in the season with the position in the league we have that’s all that matters. We just need to make sure come Sunday at 5pm we are above Batley and Widnes.

“It will be Barrow that we will put the most pressure on with a win, because then they’ll know they must win at least three of their last five games. It does also add a little bit to Batley and Widnes if we over take them, if we over take them all of a sudden we go from 12th to 10th and it knocks them down a space whilst they aren’t playing. Our sole aim is to get two points and put pressure on the teams around us.

“We should have beaten York, we beat Barrow at home, at Sheffield we were good value for a draw and against Halifax we did get a draw, over the last four games we have done ok. Remember three of those sides are above us and I think we competed pretty well in those games. Rochdale is probably the only game left where you would call us the favorite’s being honest.

“i don’t want us to have a performance where one week we don’t turn up, if we do turn up every week now until the rest of the season I know the results will look after themselves.

“When we last played them they still had a chance of staying up and they got into a good run, but since then they have lost to both us and Swinton and so it’s not quite mathematical yet but they are going down. What I have seen over the last week is a team playing with no pressure, and the four or five teams above them are under a little bit of pressure. They can play with a bit of freedom and they chucked the ball around against Featherstone and caused them quite a few problems, it’s about preparing right and turning up with a good attitude. I wouldn’t say they are playing with a care free attitude, however they have a few pivots and ball players that can throw the ball around.

On the injury front Greenwood continued: “Daniel Waite-Pullan was struggling at the weekend and the week before too, he had to come off against Sheffield. He’s had a bad injury over the last few years has Dan and missed a lot of rugby so we here at Dewsbury and Leeds have to be careful with him. We will just check on him, if there is too much risk to Dan we won’t play him because he’s only young.

“Apart from that there is just the usual knocks, Dom Speakman should be back available. The only lads unavailable through injury are Robbie Ward who isn’t yet back training and Liam Johnson who’s had a long term injury, he has now started to train with the team and could possibly return before the end of the year.”
