Sykes relieved with Sunday’s win

Dewsbury Rams captain Paul Sykes insists it was a relief to get the win over Barrow on Sunday.

The vital victory pushes the Rams two points ahead of the bottom two Barrow and Rochdale in the bid to survive in the Betfred Championship.

Sykes made his 450th career appearance on the day.

On the win, Sykes said: “It is a bit of a relief really it was a tough game as Barrow are a good side. It was a nervy start by us but we hung in there.

“Once we had our fair share of the ball we knew we could come away with the spoils and it showed in the end.

“Even before their tries we were making easy yards but just not finishing well at the back end of the sets and giving silly penalties away and yards.

“A bit of composure on the ball and composure defending and we toughed it out. If we have the fair share of the ball on their line we knew we could score points it was just getting to that place.”
