Speakman back at Rams

Dewsbury Rams can confirm that Dom Speakman has signed for the club until the end of this season.

Speakman left the Rams at the end of last year, he went on to sign for the Widnes Vikings earlier this season. However he now has decided to return to the Rams until the end of 2019.

Speakman a fans favourite whilst at the club was delighted that he could return to the Tetley’s stadium.

He said on the move: “I spoke with Lee about coming back, a little phone call teased me straight back.

“I enjoyed my time here, it’s a great club. The lads and fans make it really welcoming. I kept checking the scores on twitter and watched them a few times this year against both Thatto Heath Crusaders in the Challenge Cup and against Widnes.

“I want to get started this week with a win and then get climbing the league table. I can’t wait to help keep the club in the division, i am more than confident, we just need a win and that will kick start the season.”

On being able to bring Speakman in, head coach Lee Greenwood added: “Dom was here last season and played really well for Dewsbury, when I looked at the games from last year, he was one of the standouts. It is always good to get a player in that you know is quality at this level. It also helps when they know the place, and they obviously enjoyed being here to want to come back, which is a good sign.

“For whatever reason he couldn’t sign on or commit to Widnes which is where he has been training all season, and short term it solves an issue. However that is in a good way, he’s not just coming back to make up the numbers, he wants to play and add something to the team. Sam Day is suffering from a shoulder injury and has been for a while but keeps putting his hand up to play, he’s a tough lad is Sam. Robbie Ward took an ankle injury at York which forced him off unfortunately. That means we have gone from two players in a key position who can both do a great job there and play long minutes to now having none, so Dom can come in and play and be an experienced player which adds quality to the squad. He plays slightly differently to both Sam and Robbie and that gives us another dimension when attacking, so it is good to have him on board.
