Reilly on that winning feeling

Dewsbury Rams Martyn Reilly was pleased to get the win over Swinton Lions in the 1895 Cup on Sunday.

Reilly made his first appearance in a Rams shirt for the first time in eleven months. His return from an ACL injury was one of the many positives to come out of the victory.

On the win Reilly told BBC Radio Leeds: “It was great to get the win as last Sunday’s defeat was disappointing. Luckily the fixture fell nicely and we’ve had the chance to put it right so early on. Sometimes that is the best thing to do.

“It’s a new cup competition and a win is great for us, a couple more and it could be Wembley.”

Reilly insists no one is getting too carried away with any thoughts about Wembley just yet.

He commented: “It’s not been talked about, it is a buzz but it’s also early days. Maybe in the next round we can mention it because it’s a bit more serious and you can sort of see that road. However we are just taking every game as it comes at the minute, and if we get the next win and the one after then happy days.

“I know a few people who have questioned our good ball at times but our good ball shape has been there. Sometimes there has been an individual error of wrong options taken however today I think we executed every chance we got. It felt good and a win is a win and we went into this knowing we needed to win it to get back on form and back on track.

“Swinton are a big set and you know if you go in at A, B or C you will get whacked. You just need to run in hard and take those hits. Our middles did a massive job today and we dealt with them. We showed what the edges can do and then what the middles can do, today was a great team effort.”
