Match report- Dewsbury Rams 32-6 West Hull

Dewsbury Rams were victorious in the Challenge Cup fourth round as they beat West Hull 32-6 on the day, with Cam Leeming scoring a hat-trick.

The game started scrappy as West Hull put up a good fight, they put in some strong tackles and tried to get a few good moves going in the early stages of the fixture. The first try of the game didn’t come until the 13th minute when Andy Gabriel used his pace to get past some of the West Hull tackles to score a good try in the right hand corner.

Liam Finn was the one converting the kicks for the Rams and he duly put the first one through the posts to add the extra two points.

Ten minutes later Leeming scored the first of his three tries of the afternoon, Dewsbury created a flowing move down the right hand side with many players involved, including Adam Ryder and Lucas Walshaw, and Leeming finished the move off. Finn again made sure the kick went through the posts and that made the score 12-0.

West Hull tried to test the Dewsbury defence but the Rams stayed strong and got themselves another try on the 33rd minute when Dale Morton dived over the whitewash in the right corner. Finn again converted the kick, that made the score 18-0 to Dewsbury, and that was how the score stayed until half time.

The second half started much like the first and again it wasn’t until the 13th minute of the second half that Gabriel scored. Another darting run meant the West Hull players couldn’t get a hold of the pacey winger who dived over the line to score his second of the afternoon. Finn this time missed his conversion attempt meaning the score now was 22-0 to Dewsbury.

Leeming went on to score his second try of the day in the 61st minute, again a well put together move by the Rams down the wing made room for Leeming to gamble through a gap in the West Hull defence to score. Finn again missed his conversion attempt putting the score at 26-0 to the Rams.

The visitors didn’t stop fighting though and showed real spirit as they scored a well worked try on the 73rd minute. Benn Arbon dived over the whitewash scoring West Hull’s only try of the game, Ryan Wilson was the one on kicking duties for the visitors and he slotted his kick through the posts.

The final try of the match came two minute from time when Leeming grabbed his hat-trick, again finding a gap in a tired looking West Hull defence to score. Finn this time made his conversion kick count and the final score stood at Dewsbury Rams 32-6 West Hull.
