HISTORY

The Shay Stadium is on the south side of the town and first opened in 1921, both Halifax rugby league club and Halifax football club play at the stadium. The ground is owned by Calderdale Council, the north stand and south stand were constructed and openend in the 1990s.

By car

Get on M62 in Tingley from A653, follow M62 to Blackley New Rd/A629 in Elland. Take exit 24 from M62, then follow A629 to your destination in Halifax.

By train

You can catch the train from Dewsbury and either change in Leeds or Huddersfield to get to Halifax.

Car parking is available however it’s the main car park at the ground is a paying one, there is a free car park just to the side of the big main one and that is free.

PUBS

There is food available at the ground, food served is similar to what you can expect to get in most football grounds, i.e. pies, chips and burgers.

The Three Pigeons on the way to the ground is an option; Dirty Dick’s (HX1 2LH) is also a good option. Fans may also want to have a drink in the Ring O’ Bells (HX1 1QS) the Big 6 (HX1 3HG), Shears Inn (HX3 9EZ), and The Cross Keys (HX1 2SH).
