Invincible returns to Rams

Dewsbury Rams are delighted to announce the re-signing of Liam Finn until the end of 2020 season, the half-back was previously at the club between 2006-2009, he was involved in the invincible team that won League One back in 2009.

This transfer couldn’t have happened without the fantastic backing of Tracey and Andrew Sutcliffe and Squad Builder.

Halfback Liam Finn will transfer from Newcastle Thunder ahead of the next round of Betfred Championship and League 1 action after agreeing to sign for the club.

He has previously played for Halifax, Wakefield, Widnes, Castleford and Featherstone as well as Dewsbury.

A statement from Newcastle Thunder read: “Halfback Liam Finn will transfer from Newcastle Thunder ahead of the next round of Betfred Championship and League 1 action after agreeing to sign with Dewsbury Rams.

Finn, who signed for Thunder from Super League outfit Wakefield Trinity last summer, has remained on the coaching staff at Belle Vue and has been undertaking four- hour round trips for training at Kingston Park.

With a young family to consider, the former Ireland international and Thunder have agreed on the transfer to a club nearer to his home base, with the Rams the club that he has opted to sign for.

Having provided a vastly experienced voice in training during pre-season and having featured in all three Betfred League 1 matches so far this season, he heads back into the heartlands with Thunder’s blessing and thanks.

Newcastle Thunder chairman Mick Hogan said: “We’re naturally disappointed that Liam is leaving the club, he has been all we expected him to be when he signed in the winter and has been an experienced voice and influence within the squad.

“Whilst it is a shame, we understand the strains that he has been under with the travelling from Wakefield to Newcastle and respect his desire to play somewhere closer to his family.

“We’d like to thank him for all his efforts with Thunder over the last four months and wish him well for the rest of the Betfred Championship season with Dewsbury.

We will now move quickly to replace Liam for what is a key position within the team”

Liam Finn said: “I’m really disappointed to have made this decision and leave the club after such a short time. It was obviously never the plan but circumstances change and I’ve made a decision within that.

“I’ve left a great club with ambition that is doing a great deal of good for our game with some fantastic people who work very hard. I’m gutted to have had to make this call and hope they and Thunder kick on and achieve what they’ve set out to do.”

On the transfer Dewsbury Rams chairman Mark Sawyer said: “We are delighted to have Liam Finn back at the club, and we would like to place on record our thanks to Newcastle Thunder and especially their chairman Mick Hogan for his dealing in the transfer, we wish Thunder all the best for the rest of the Betfred League 1 season.”

Welcome back to the club Liam Finn.
