Garratt on scoring tries and winning games

Dewsbury Rams Tom Garratt is looking forward to his first trip up to Cumbria as a professional player as the Rams face Barrow away this weekend.

The former Siddal man has made a blistering start to the 2019 season by scoring three tries in the first two games. However he insists that whilst it’s great to score tries, he’s more interested in helping the Rams gain two points.

He said: “Three tries in the first two games is obviously brilliant, but being honest I’d have rather had two wins and zero tries. All I am focusing on is winning this weekend’s game and Dewsbury doing well this year, if I score more tries along the way then that’s just a bonus.

“As I mentioned before, scoring tries isn’t at the top of my agenda, the team and the club doing well is what I’m interested in and all I focus on is winning the next game and so on.”

The 24 year old says he is looking forward to his first trip up to Cumbria as a pro player and he wants to come back down to Yorkshire with a win.

He commented: “I know at amateur trips to the Cumbria teams they were always a difficult affair but at the same time the most fun. However it’s my first trip at professional level so I’ll jump in with both feet and we’ll come back with the two points.”

Finally the prop forward says he is enjoying playing at this level after making the step up from the amateur game.

He said: “I’ve found it a challenge but that’s what I wanted and I’m definitely enjoying myself. I am looking forward to playing the bigger teams and really testing myself.”
