Grassroots: Trojans march on, mixed fortunes for other sides

In National Conference League Division One, Thornhill Trojans produced a disciplined defensive performance and were clinical in attack in the second half to emerge 28-2 winners away at Milford Marlins.

The Trojans led 4-2 at the half-way point of the match, which was screened live on FreeSports.

And they scored four tries in the second half to take the game away from their hosts.

Scorers for Thornhill were Danny Ratcliffe, who grabbed a brace, Ryan Fenton and Luke Haigh.

Joel Gibson kicked six goals.

Meanwhile, Shaw Cross Sharks produced an improved performance in a 24-16 home reverse against Pilkington Recs.

The Sharks had suffered a heavy defeat to Oulton Raiders a week earlier, but showed much more spirit this past weekend, despite the loss.

Try scorers for Shaw Cross were Brandon French, who scored two, and Thomas Stuckey. Shaun Squires kicked two goals.

Thornhill are six points clear at the top of the table, while Shaw Cross are three points adrift of safety in 11th.

In Division Two, Dewsbury Moor took a share of the spoils with a 20-20 draw away at Hull Dockers, while in Division Three Dewsbury Celtic were narrowly edged out by Eastmoor Dragons.

The draw leaves the Maroons three points behind Stanningley at the top of Division Two, while Celtic drop to 7th in Division Three.
