The 2006 Sportsmatch Annual Awards Ceremony took place at the Nursery Pavillion, Lord’s Cricket Ground, on Thursday 9th November 2006.
Over 500 successful applicants, sponsors and guests of Sportsmatch attended the ceremony.
The awards were split into five categories – Youth, Community, Women & Girls, Schools and Disability. Out of 442 sporting organisations throughout the UK who were awarded Sportsmatch funding, three were nominated for Special Awards in each category.
Dewsbury Rams RLFC were voted runners up in the Community category and were presented with a framed certificate to commemorate the achievement.
This is the only time, in the 14 year history of Sportsmatch, that a Rugby League organisation, other than The RFL, has ever been nominated for a Special Award. It recognises all the hard work put into the local community by everybody at Dewsbury Rams and, coupled with the prestigious award of “National League Club of the Year” which the Rams received at the recent RFL National League Awards Dinner, is a clear indication that the club is well on the way to achieving the goal of becoming a true Community Club.
